Okay, today I'll be reviewing one of my favorite skincare lines of all time: Tatcha. Tatcha is a Japanese skincare line inspired by the ancient beauty rituals the geisha used over the centuries. They use natural plants and some treasured minerals as ingredients in their skincare line to promote healing and healthy skin, especially those like myself with skin sensitivities.
Right before Christmas, Gilt was having a promotion for Tatcha and I decided to snag a Ritual Discovery Kit as a Christmas gift. Couple weeks later, I kept buying more and more from Tatcha because their products are just so good.
First up, packaging and presentation. Opening my packages from Tatcha is like an experience in and of itself. Everything comes wrapped in violet tissue paper with a lovely note from the Tatcha team. Their letters and product information is printed on beautiful stationary -- it might be mulberry paper, but I'm not sure. In any case, it's quality presentation for luxurious products.
Tatcha's Rice Enzyme Powder ($15) comes in four variations - classic, for combination skin, gentle, for dry skin, deep, for oily skin, and soothing, for sensitive skin. This travel sized version is actually free with the promo code WELCOMEGIFT for new customers.
This is an interesting face wash to use since it comes in powder form. You simply apply to wet hands and face and massage into the skin. It doesn't remove makeup, but it does cleanse and exfoliate without leaving your skin feeling stripped.
I love it because it really is travel friendly, especially since it's not a liquid. I actually brought this with me during my trip to Japan and it was a lifesaver. Anytime I'm traveling now, I avoid bringing my liquid cleansers and only bring this or small sample sizes of this (did I mention you get free samples on every Tatcha order?).
Next up, the ever so popular Luminous Dewy Skin Mist ($15). I've heard Jaclyn Hill rave about this product for years now and I decided to pick up the travel sized version.
It comes in a beautiful glass bottle with a spritz nozzle. The glass isn't fully opaque, so you can still see how much product there is.
The product itself is a milky formula that should be gently shaken before use. I wouldn't call this a makeup setting spray. In fact, it would more likely smudge your makeup. Instead, I like to use this as a freshener when my skin feels parched. It's extremely hydrating, much more so than my favorite Caudalie Beauty Elixir. I don't reach for this that often since it's a little too hydrating to the point where I can still feel a little bit of residue on my skin after spraying. I think my skin is more suited for the lighter Caudalie Beauty Elixir, but nevertheless, the Luminous Dewy Skin Mist does as it says.
Other items I picked up from Tatcha over the months are the Soothing Triple Recovery Cream and the Camellia Beauty Oil.
When I first placed an order with Tatcha, I received a sample size of their Soothing Triple Recovery Cream ($30) and I fell in love with it. This was during the winter when my skin was extremely parched and this cream was a miracle. I used every drop of my sample, which surprisingly lasted a long time. For this cream, a little bit goes a long way.
I've read many reviews that say this cream is way too thick for moisturizing, and I agree. I would never moisturize my entire face with this cream. I actually only use this product on my problem areas where I tend to have eczema flare ups of. It contains indigo, colloidal oatmeal, and Sophora Japonica extract which soothes and heals the skin. I had a bad reaction to something a few weeks ago and this product soothed the inflammation. I only need a tiny dab of this cream to cover any redness or inflamed skin. Like, seriously, a teensy dab because it's extremely moisturizing and thick.
I bought the Camellia Beauty Oil ($33) out of sheer indulgence. I'm obsessed with facial oils and I've had my eye on this one for quite a while. As with all the other products I got, I didn't want splurge on the full sized one so I got the travel sized one. Which is perfectly fine because this beauty oil goes a long way as well.
It has the texture of a light oil (like Nude Progenius and Josie Maran Argan Oil Light), but is as moisturizing as a much heavier oil. While I have to use 2-3 drops of my Nude Progenius, one drop of the Camellia Beauty Oil does the job for me, and it smells absolutely heavenly.
Like all of Tatcha's products, this one is beautifully packaged in a glass dropper bottle with tiny gold flakes in the oil. So decadent. I haven't actually picked up any of the gold to apply to my face, and I'm not sure if I want to. I'm not even sure if the gold would dissolve into the skin anyway. Either way, it's a lovely touch to a luxurious product.
Lastly, the Ritual Discovery Kit ($59). I got this kit for my mother for Christmas, though she hasn't gotten around to using it yet. Like me, she's a skincare aficionado and has about three other brands she's cycling through before she gets to this one.
The kit includes trial sized versions of the One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, the Rice Enzyme Powder, the Deep Brightening Serum, and the Moisture Rich Silk Cream. The greatest thing about this kit is that it can be customized for your skin type. Tatcha has a Ritual Discovery Kit for combination, sensitive, oily, and dry skin, and each kit has products to suit each skin type.
This kit contains everything you need for your skincare routine, or "ritual." The One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil is a makeup remover and cleanser. The Rice Enzyme Powder exfoliates and cleanses. The serum treats the skin and the cream moisturizes.
The Camellia Cleansing Oil is another product I like to take with me when I'm traveling. It's excellent at removing the most stubborn makeup and it's super gentle. As for the serum, I really enjoy the Deep Brightening Serum over the Deep Hydration Firming Serum. The Deep Brightening Serum has a texture like lotion that sinks deep into the skin. The Deep Hydration Firming Serum is a thicker consistency, almost like a gel, that tends to sit on my skin rather than hydrate.
Overall, I'm absolutely in love with Tatcha's skincare line. If I could, I'd buy everything they have to offer, but alas, it is so out of my price range that I can only afford the travel sized products. However, I'm still cycling through a lot of skincare brands so perhaps it is best that I only have the trial sized ones. Aside from price, however, Tatcha's products are most definitely top of the line in everything from packaging to quality. You definitely get what you pay for, and the products last a very long time. I especially adore Tatcha for their wide range of products for varying skin types. As a person with eczema, I'm so glad I found their products and I highly recommend this brand.
5/5
